Well, in my new house for a bit over two months and all I can say is God loves sending us some friends! The day after we got here a very pregnant cat showed up. A week or so later she dropped kittens literally on my newly layed kitchen floor...SIGH... Her and her little babies as cute as they were found a lovely new home at the cat rescue. It was amazing to see that though. We have come across cool frogs we never saw in Indiana and even caught a sticky frog in my daughters bedroom. We have seen bugs we never saw and the biggest butterflies ever. I never realized how big they got LOL. A tree crashed through my roof and broke my lovely rule about nature staying outside. Grasshoppers longer than my finger. Nature is loud here in my opinion. I am still amazed a colony of ants brought down a huge tree. Another cat has showed up this one bearing a strange likeness to my own cat Little Bit except it is a girl. Nothing compares though to what we found in the barn today. A gopher tortoise. A big one too and if my research has paid off I know he is a he and he is also a protected species in these parts. Owning one of these hefty guys can get you a fine of up to 5,000. He will surely not become a pet. I will say my children are really liking the nature here though. We miss Indiana but we have seen some really cool stuff.

This is our set up for workboxes

We have yet to use the workbox system but this is what I have created and I feel it will work for me. I have never read Sue's book just took ideas from other great blogs and the workbox yahoo group. This was made to fit our life style basically and because there is no way I could find spots for 36 boxes at 12 per kid!! The set up is simply each child has a file box with 12 file folders and a basket for the stuff that does not fit. The each have an assignment folder with assignment cards that I got from some notebooking site years ago! The cards are laminated and I will write their work on them each day. I plan on making some fun cards and such when I have the time and the ink that I seem to run out of constantly. The colored canvas bags you see are that childs supplies for Artistic Pursuits and they happen to fit there nicely so that is there spot. The pictures on the front of their boxes are their check in check out cards as well so they know when they are working and when they are done. Our first week back YAY!!!!! We started off pretty slow so we didn't overwhelm ourselves too much. We started out doing the first week of Animal Worlds by Winterpromise with Skyler and CLE math. The boys started with Sea and Sky by Winterpromise and Teaching Textbooks for math. Did I mention I love Winterpromise, no bias there but I just adore it and the kids really like it too.

Mommy made us shulettes. They are a german tradition for a childs first day of school. They are cones filled with little odds and ends. We had blue jello with gummis octopus and fish for breakfast! Wow new house new state lotsa changes. I have a schoolroom again and BONUS I have an extra little room that we call the office. My computer is no longer shoved in the living room and my school room is no longer a sectioned off part of the dining room!!! Yay me If you would like to see more pictures you can go here.

Nature Area

I decided to move some stuff around and make a little nature area. We have hermit crabs on the bottom shelf, an empty goldfish bowl, leaves we have pressed as well as a presser, bug habitat lotsa little bug boxes and outside planting toys. I also have a really cool set of labeled rocks and minerals. I figure I will make a nature backpack to go along with it and hopefully some books and do some projects in the Spring. Yes Winter is nature but I hate to be cold.

Well this shipment was fun too. She really liked the sushi eraser and the oragami. We made a cat with the enclosed instructions. She really enjoys getting her own little package in the mail as well. As usual I took way too many pictures to fit into a single post so if you would like to see more go here.

Nov 30-Dec 4 week 18 Insects Insects Insects

Wow looks like that wall needs some bug spray. The letter is I and the theme is insects and we did an awful lot of insect bug stuff. We did all the usual MFW stuff the worksheets and all but I added an awful lot. I had so many early learning bug things so we did alot. I have an Inch by Inch literature set from Lakeshore Learning with the book, inch blocks, and birds to measure so we played with that. We made an inch worm book mark from Danielle's ABC I believe. We also made an inch worm from that site and got an itty bitty inch worm book there too. I really like that site. I have some inch worm manipulatives and cards to use from learning resources so we played with that as well. That was on Monday. On Tuesday I used my Lauri alphabet cards and pieces and we played around with that. I am still happy with the Lauri alphabet box. We read some ant books, Are You An Ant? and Lost wich since she has learned those letters i had her sound outr the title. We watched our ants in our anthill and I was a bit on the dissapointed side. They have never really made any tunnels and they all stay in the front while all the dirt is in the back. After all was done we went on a dead bug hunt. We read online that harvester ants like dead insects so off we went. On Wednesday we also used her HWOT workbook for the letter I. I have started using this calendar from childcareland.com . They have alot of free printables so she traces the days of the week numbers. I have been using my start write program , to make worksheets with her name and phone number. I love that it has HWOT fonts and all, they also offer free trial. We colored an I and read The Grouchy Ladybug which she really did not seem to like well. I got a lady bug count and graph from childcareland.com that we made as well. I also took some lapbook pieces from homeschool share's The Grouchy Ladybug Lapbook. Danielle's place also had a itty bitty lady bug book so we did that too. We made a ladybug craft and she loved her little bug and we ended that day with an early reader BUGS! book from Hubbards Cupboard . On Thursday she made an I Like lapbook piece from homeschool shares alphabet lapbook and read an Izzy the Iguana mini book from HOAC early reader lapbook. We played with a honey comb that I found in a yard forever ago on a nature walk. We also played with lakeshore learning bee box. Really cool a bunch of bee manipulatives with matching pic cards that tell about that type of bee. We again used Danielle's place for a really cool bee mobile that is proudly displayed in Skyler Bay's school area. We talked about what bees give us, God making all things for a reason and we should really appreciate the bees cause without them all the pretty flowers would die. We read The Bee Tree ate honey off a spoon and made a bee lifecycle wheel from homeschool shares honey bee lapbook. Friday was a quick day she did some insect theme worksheets from The Learning Page . Membership is free and man they have ALOT of free stuff. I know there are thousands of bugs but we just touched on those few the lapbook pieces I will probally just make into a BUG lapbook sometime when I have time LOL. All in all great week. Start write is pretty cool for extras.

Little Passports Shipment Brazil

Her first shipment came in late October and was from Brazil. They get a sticker for the map, suitcase, and passport. She also gets little souvenirs as well as a personalized letter. I ordered this for my daughter the 5 year old and have yet to blog about it. I have recieved the first shipment as well as a second. She totally loves it!!! Here are pics of her opening it up. She loves her big map and little passport. She could barely wait for the second shipment to arrive. This is a very well thought out set and I am sure any child will love it. You could use it for so many ages and add so much such as lapbooks and reading crafts etc. I am really glad I purchased this and the price is wonderful!!

This is our count down to Christmas. I hung up 24 little stockings and each day there is an activity or somewhere to go for fun. The Santa Claus poster is where each day they will add a piece of cotton to his beard. When all the little stockings have been emptied and are taken down the night before Christmas I will put up there stockings so they can wake up to that. I have about 15 days worth of things to do so if anyone has ideas please share!!

Our New Writing Center

Skyler needed a writing center so last weekend I made one on her art table. The crate full of books in the background are art books from the Come Look With Me series. I used her handwriting without tears wood pieces and letter cards. Every week that we change her letter a different one will be posted up top, this week happens to be I. I printed some insect writing paper off line since it matches our "insect" theme. I used the handwriting without tears letter cards from homeschool share to add in there. Her fat pencils and handwriting without tears flip crayons finished it off. For more pics click here. She had a blast when she came home and found it.

Week 7

What a very full week we had. Everyday we do the add a number to the 100 chart and go over the alphabet chart of course. This week was letter U the theme being the 5 senses. We started the week off with hearing by making instruments. We made a wacky guitar, a shaker, a drum and sand slides. She had a ton of fun and was very possessive of them. We matched texture letters to pictures and played with The Magic School Bus Arnolds Ear playset. We of course read teh Magic School Bus in the Haunted Museum as well. We did our My Fathers World cut outs pictures to add in the ABC lap/notebook. I mostly use pieces for that from homeschool share. On Tuesday we talked about touch and made oobleck. This was fun and messy and she loved it. She played with her cuisenaire rods and we read Here Are My Hands. Wednesday was sight and for that we played with kaliedescopes then made one of our own. Thursday was for smell and we talked about good and bad her list was great.

She was su cute thinking about these. Friday we had a field trip to the Children's Museum. To finish up our week we had a taste activity. Unsweetened chocolate, lemons, plain chips, and fruit snacks. All in all great busy full week and even a slide show to show off! So I hope everyone else had a great week and we are enjoying My Fathers Worlds K so far. The boys did the normal reading, writing, math, language, spelling and as well all the while driving mom nuts!!

Continent Boxes and my Asia box

Continent boxes are really cool. Continent Boxes are sort of like treasure boxes- one for each continent- which contain maps, books, and artifacts from the countries on that continent. I have made an Asia box and I think it turned out pretty cool. There are images of Asia on the top and all over the sides I placed flags of the countries in Asia.

I love the Come Look With Me Art Books so when I saw the Asian Art I had to add that too. Of course you cannoy dare talk about Asia without chopsticks!

The map of Asia and the picture packs are of course about Asia. The packs contain famous landmarks, animals and plants.

These are books one for Japan and one for the Asia continent I found.

Of course my wonderful cool china learning pack is included that I purchased here. There are more pictures of mine here. I would love to buy a learning pack like this from every continent I think they are great. I have yet to make the other continents but this is a great start.

To learn more click on the image. I bought one a while ago while we were in the middle of moving and just recently opened it and explored. This thing is well put together and my kids LOVE it. They thought it was the neatest thing in the world to actually have stuff that came from China. They really loved the money and even the envelope itself was a big hit. I wish I had really looked this over before and blogged about it cause she did a great job!!!

The real interest in buying this is to add to my Asia continent box that I am working on and will blog all about that later. This kit is really cool and I hope anyone who buys one that their kids love it as much as mine!

Back to school cookies and they were yummy!!! Skyler studies the letter M this week for moon and we read so many moon books I think I am good for many years to come on that subject!! The boys continued on with math and started spelling this week. It was a pretty peaceful week that we finished off with a nice long walk Friday night and building school buses at Lowe's this morning.

Some people have theirs all together, perfect all the time. Some are O.K. with ecleast keeping the pieces somewhat together. Others kinda fall apart over time when you just get busy. You get to involved with T.V. or blogs maybe? Before you know it the house is a mess and your school schedule has fallen apart. LOL. So I have decided that untile I get all my pieces half way organized it is time to take a break from the blog world for awhile. I am gonna miss seeing everyones blog and updates, but I have some over hauling to do here.

I hope everyone has a blast with school and staying organized. I think I love blogs a bit too much. Take care all.

For this week, since I’m quite curious, post about what you did for New Year’s and what your traditions are each year. Have fun!

Our traditions, we don't really have any. When I was very little I remember watching the ball drop with my grandmother. As a teen I was the baby sitter by the time I was an adult I was a mommy. So I guess in my opinion it is kinda like a party holiday and I just have never celebrated it much. I do miss the ball drop with my grandma though so maybe I will catch that next year?

Can anyone believe 2009 is ALMOST here? Seems like just last week the summer-sun was shining. With every new year, like many, I try to make a list of goals and tasks I would like to accomplish for that year.
THEME
This week I want to set our minds on setting some goals for next year, whether personal, for the whole family, or for school.

Wow what a question!!! I have goals it's just getting them all together. So maybe NUMBER 1 is ORGANIZE!!!!!

2. Find a math my son likes and don't confuse him anymore than I already have LOL.

3. Have Skyler learn to read

4. Possibly bring Fox back home to school.

5. Straughten out my pre-teens attitude before she doesn't get to reach her teens!!

6. My personal weight loss goals (any help here bloggers would be great).

7. Make my lesson plans for the year during summer.

8. Find a homeschool planner that I actually like to use.

9. Have more patience

10. Get more discipline with the wild kids.

11. To finally admit to myself that she really is no longer a baby and let go before I do damage.

12. To find some sort of peace with things I can't let go of or change.

13. To have more fun with the children.

14. Maybe quit smoking (pray alot on this one).

15. Study the bible more with my children.

16. To find a new me one I actually get along with.

17. To make more messes with art.

18. To hug them more.

19. To not worry.

20. To be thankful for what is here and know the rest will follow as long as I believe.

Most important though I want to remeber to remind people of how I feel about them all the time. My grandmother passed early this year and in the later year my uncle. All of the pictures I forgot to send, phone calls I forgot to make, cards I was to busy to write all of that will never get done now. I want to make sure people I love know that I love them, how important their life is to me and what it means to have them here for me. I think this is a good start and I cannot wait to read everyone elses!!!!

This week I want to invite you to share one of your favourite winter treats. A treat you look forward to making when the snow falls and include the recipe for it so others can try it out.

Well I don't have a recipe cause it's usually the stuff that comes out in stores that are my favorites. Egg Nog for one MMMMMMMMMMM!!!! What is really good is the McDonalds Egg Nog Milkshake and have them add some chocolate to it or add syrup when you get home. Of course candy canes in coco are great too. I love any chocolate mint as well. Chocolate covered cherries too are great. That is about all I can think of.

Well some got done some did not. Their daddy was vacationing this week so we lapbooked and played. We went to Chuck E Cheese where Fox spent his tickets on dinosaur bones which led him to build a museum when we got home. That was neat. Skyler did week 1 of My Fathers World K Letter S and The Sun. The boys both made lapbooks from homeschoolshare My Fathers Dragon and had fun doing them. Really big lapbooks by the way!! Skyler made Madeline's Christmas lapbook and I think she had fun too. Damian’s Dragon

Once upon a time Damian and the dragon were going to outer space. Damian rode the dragon up into the sky. Soon they were heading to Jupiter to find aliens. On Jupiter while walking they found an alien. The alien took them to their hive where they found other space men. The space men were gathering the aliens eggs.
Damian and the dragon came up with a plan to stop them and save the aliens eggs. But the plan did not work to stop them. Damian and the dragon made jail cells to stop the space men. They locked up the space men and took their ship. The eggs were saved so Damian and the dragon said good bye to the aliens and went home.

Oh how often we either say it or hear it … “Too much to do, not enough time!”? I hear it and say it quite often. How do you manage all the tasks you have to complete in just 24hours? There are a lot of different methods on how to get chores and organizing done. Some have a strict schedule others just kinda wing it.
THEME:
This week I would you to share how chores are done in your home. How you order your day with school and getting housework done. How do you decide which chores should be done by which child, of which age? I’m looking forward to hearing them!

Chores HA!!!! Well once upon a time I was a firm believer that I should do it all well after 4 that changed! I need help in this area big time. They know what they are suppose to do I guess it is my following through that needs to be stricter. As of right now when I need something done I seem to rangle the closest kid or the one who won't whine much. I need a schedule, I need organization and obedience school too!!

God’s Word is also like sweetness to our souls. His sweet love, forgiveness, comfort, peace, and more is what makes our lives seem a little more bearable when things get rough. Whenever you eat your sweet piece of goodness remember that God loves you and will always be there when life seems sour.

This is my favorite candy bar. I can eat it alllllll day long. I really like to break it up in pieces and mix it in with this sweet spicy trail mix stuff I buy. I could probally live on it if I had too.

Share a scripture for this week as well. One that lifts you up when you’re feeling discouraged.

We did nothing!!!! OK we cleaned, Devlin and Fox did K12, Damian played and the only thing Skyler did was color mixing. We read Mouse Paint and White Rabbits Color Book and used her new science kit to learn how to mix colors. She had a blast and was truly amazed at the fact it actually worked!!!! After she filled up the little wells with mixes she took all the extra and put it into the tub and took a bath.

Well granted it's Thursday but I know this week is done as far as I am concerned. Two fieldtrips and everyday household things has been enough. Damian did finish his book "If You Were At The First Thanksgiving" and his lapbook to go along as big as that was it was enough for this week. It was three folders long and alot of writing, cutting etc etc. The fieldtrips were great. Devlin will do a job shadowing at the Animal Care Hospital tomorrow so that should be interesting. Devlin and Fox will do their Hoosier Academy cirriculum tomorrow. My week is done and I am very tired.

Well, the polls have been open to vote for your favourite homeschool sites of 2008 and many have already ready cast their votes. Not too much longer before they close in fact. I’ve already voted for mine, including my sister in Best Teen Gal category and my little sister in Best Blog Design. Haha, I’m a little biased on those two and well imho they’re the best! I even made an “I Voted” sticker to stick on my site so others would go vote as well.

Today we watched a kitty have surgery. He got his claws removed and got netured. It was very intersting!! Devlin is going back on Friday to job shadow the vet. It was very different kind of trip and I think everyone learned alot!!

Indiana State Museum

Yesterday we went on a field trip to the Indiana State Museum. Devlin was thrilled with the Girl Scout set up and Damian went nuts for the Indians, Fox ran everywhere and so did Skyler. They all loved the chocolate display. I could have spent all day if the kids would have been still ypo actually look at anything!!! They got cute pass ports that got stamps at different locations. All in all it was pretty cool I just was not fond of the whole no photography. I am not fond of anywhere I can't take pics. There was so much more to see after I was told of teh no camera thing. Oh well it was fun!!!

Well we did school today with Damian on the account of the field trip tomorrow. So we had school and Skyler made dinner. In honor of her pizza thing we let her yes 4 years old make pizza. Then we actually ate it!! While the pizza cooked we read some fun pizza books. All in all an OK Sunday.

Well I started this week on Sunday because Sunday afternoon they were making me crazy with the I have nothing to do! We did it all this week I think. Finished Week 4 of Winterpromise American Story. Week 3 of Noeo Chemistry. Did school with Foxy and caught a few times with Skyler and her pizza stuff. We did math and language arts and spelling of course reading. Like I said we did it all. This past week was suppose to be Pizza Week but sadly I did not have the book Damian needed to complete his lapbook on The History of Pizza. So this week he worked on his lapbook based on the book, "If You Were At The First Thanksgiving" I am really having fun with that. All in all I think it was OK. I used Devlin alot to free my hands up but hey that is what big sisters are for!!!! Enjoy the slide show.

Monday 27th

Damian was a grouchy boy today. He was mean and nasty to all of us today. Don’t know what his issue is. He did his Rightstart math and did great. He took forever writing his spelling words and through a fit writing 2 definitions for science. We finished week 1 of Noeo today so hopefully we will do week 2 the rest of this week. He did his language arts in his First Language Lessons and is doing well understanding nouns and proper nouns. As far as history with the American Story 1 this is a catch up week from what did not get done last week. Today we finished The Discovery of the Americas and we have a few chapters in The Birchbark House to catch up on as well as building an Indian backrest. He as well hates handwriting and with the mood today it was worse. We are still using the Pathway readers he seems to like them well enough.
Skyler of course was a happy chip today. We started her Alphabet Bob Books. She is usually thrilled to do school. We finished her letter 5 in her My Fathers World The Fifth day. Hung that on the wall. We did handwriting without tears preschool and used the wood pieces with her Language Lessons For The Very Young copywork letter A. She had fun. She made a witch friend for her lapbook, and did quite a few of her Halloween worksheets today. She does so great with patterning. She had a bit of confusion on the worksheet about what is different? She’ll get it though. She had a blast at Kindermusik.
Fox well he was OK so far today. We have done math and he did very well. He hates handwriting, that will probally never change. I don’t understand why he does so very well in school at the learning center but with me he fights it. He cannot once having phonics and reading without an argument. I also just noticed that Hoosier Academy has no spelling program. Should I have concern or just add my own? He also read a Bob Book and fought me every step of the way. I love the child who drives me nuts.
Devlin of course did all her school totally on her own. That is usually a given with her. Yet keeping her room picked up is not always a given.

Tuesday 28 October

Damian has had a great day. He did math and did very well. He did language arts, spelling, reading and read in The Birchbark House. Well I read he listened. He also made a little Indian friend from the website making friends paperdolls. He started the Simply Science, Atoms book for science, and he does not like writing definitions. He does ecleast ask questions about the pictures or what I read though, so that’s good. All in all he did great!!
Fox and Devlin are of course at the learning center today. I was a bit distressed yesterday to see Devlin was expected to read 7 chapters of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. I thought that was a bit much. Fox is whizzing through the math so I am OK with the school so far. Skyler did not do school till 6 tonight but better late than never!! We made our 6 for the sixth day of creation, and read a bible story. Colored a creation coloring page, made letters read a bunch of books, and then did a Halloween puzzle. It was a great night.

Damians day was well he started to learn about money in math and did very well. I think he knows more than he lets on at times. Today is out fieldtrip to One Fun Farm in Farmland and I am sure they will all have a blast!! So school time for Damian went very well. Fox did OK at math and great at phonics which is usually the other way around. Devlin got her school done as usual as well. Since we had our fieldtrip today, Skyler just did some work with her lapbook and read books today. She id her itty bitty books, read a poem about pumpkins and Jesus, tried her hand at a maze, counted candy, did a few more pattern activities that she loves so very much, put the sequence cards for pumpkin to jack o lantern in order, and tried some more on the what is different worksheets. We also colored pictures and one will become the lapbook cover. She did not complain so it was all good.

1 Fun Farm Fieldtrip Well what started out as a fun day was cut short by two little boys attitudes. Fox and Damian did not make very good choices so sadly we had to leave before it was over. I think up until that they had fun though.

Thursday Damian has had a good school day. He did math, reading, spelling, read a chapter in The Birchbark House, and in science he built a water molecule, and a carbon dioxide molecule. He also combined vinegar and water to see a chemical reaction. We are liking Noeo so far!! He did not enjoy handwriting though. Due to yesterdays behaviors his copy work was some rules, so he was not thrilled. He read his reading book no problem though. We put his figure in the Timeline Book and Now week 3 of Winterpromise is officially over! Skyler read books, she played with her Ghostly little letters and made the layer book of the trick or treat teddy bears. I have realized out of the books we have read this week she likes Spooky and the Ghost Cat and The Teeny Tiny Ghost the best. Tonight the children will all paint the pumpkins they got yesterday from the patch!!

Today is Halloween and of course not much was accomplished. Damian did his spelling test he missed 1. Skyler read some books and 1 was pretty good. Her pumpkin counting cards go 1-12 and this great book Trick or Treat Countdown counted through the numbers 12 so that was great that it was the same. The Halloween Lapbook is all done. Devlin did her online school and so did Fox and tonight they will trick or treat at the mall.
